When Wrong Thoughts Make You Question Your Faith!
Few moments compare to the joy of giving your life to Christ. You know you’ve been forgiven. You feel clean, hopeful, and excited about this new life. You genuinely want to please God and leave your old life behind.
Then something unexpected happens.
Wrong thoughts begin to cross your mind. Old memories resurface. Temptations you thought were gone suddenly appear. Fear, anger, guilt, or condemnation tries to creep back in. For many believers, this is confusing. “If I’m truly born again, why am I still thinking like this?”
The answer is simpler and more encouraging than many realize. Being born again changes your spirit instantly, but renewing your mind is a daily process. That’s why the Bible says, “Be transformed by the renewing of your mind” (Romans 12:2, NKJV). The enemy may try to remind you of your past, and the world around you may influence your thinking, but neither can change who you have become in Christ.
The important thing to remember is this: a wrong thought entering your mind is not the same as accepting it. Victory begins with your response.
When those thoughts come, remind yourself who you are. God’s Word says, “If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation”… (2 Corinthians 5:17, NKJV). Your identity is not defined by your feelings, your past, or the thoughts trying to gain your attention. Christ defines it.
Then choose obedience. Don’t allow passing thoughts to become actions. Every time you respond according to God’s Word instead of your emotions, you strengthen your walk with Him and silence the lies that seek to discourage you.
Keep acting on the Word. Don’t merely know what God says; live it. Speak His Word when fear whispers. Choose forgiveness when bitterness knocks. Walk in love when anger tries to take over. As James 1:22 (NKJV) reminds us, we are called to be doers of the Word and not hearers only.
Above all, never forget God’s promise: “For sin shall not have dominion over you” (Romans 6:14, NKJV). You are not struggling to become victorious; through Christ, victory already belongs to you. Every time you choose God’s truth over a wrong thought, you are living out the reality of your new life.
Wrong thoughts may knock at the door of your mind, but they don’t have to find a home there. As you continue renewing your mind with God’s Word, your thinking will increasingly reflect the person God has made you to be.
