Soul Winning: The Great Commission

Soul Winning

“Soul Winning is God’s number one job and there’s nothing as vital in the kingdom of God as the winning of souls.” Pastor Chris Oyakhilome in the Book; “Join this Chariot.” “Soul Winning: The Great Commission”

Soul winning involves sharing the word of God, guiding others to dedicate their lives to Christ, and saving them from eternal separation from God. Through this transformative act, individuals become children of God, able to experience His goodness and blessings even in this life. It is about rescuing those in spiritual danger and bringing hope to the lost.

Soul winning is not restricted to a particular set of individuals or those uniquely anointed for this purpose. Rather, it is a call to all Spirit-led Christians, who are the sons of God, to go into the world according to Jesus’ words in (Matthew 28:19) “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and the Holy Ghost.” This is known as “the Great Commission.” As sons of God, it is our responsibility to fulfill this command as an individual, community, and church. Spreading God’s word to everyone in our city, nation, and world.

Let’s briefly discuss 5 reasons every Christian should be a soul winner.

It Is Our Duty as Christians

As Sons of God, we are called to be witnesses of the gospel and lead others to Christ. This responsibility is emphasized in the Great Commission, where Jesus instructs His followers to “Go and make disciples of all nations” (Matthew 28:19-20). It is not just a suggestion but a command from our Lord. By winning souls, we fulfill our duty as ambassadors of Christ, representing His love and truth to the world. The Apostle Paul reminds us in (2 Corinthians 5:20), “Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us” Embracing this duty means actively seeking opportunities to share the good news and bring others into the kingdom of God.

To Produce Spiritual Fruit

Bearing fruit is a natural outcome of life. In (John 15:5), Jesus states, “I am the vine; you are the branches. He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit; for without me ye can do nothing.” Soul winning is a way to produce spiritual fruit by bringing others into a relationship with Jesus. This fruitfulness is not only a sign of obedience but also a testament to the work of the Holy Spirit within us. In (Galatians 5:22-23), Paul describes the fruit of the Spirit, which includes love, joy, and peace. When we win souls, we give expression to these fruits, and in so doing, we contribute to the growth of God’s kingdom and the spiritual development and well-being of those we reach.

The Time for Harvest is Now

Jesus spoke about the urgency of the harvest. In (John 4:35), He says, “Say not ye, ‘There are yet four months, and then cometh harvest? behold, I say unto you, lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest.” This metaphor underscores the need to win souls to Christ with a deep sense of urgency. The world is filled with people searching for meaning, hope, and truth. And as believers, we have the answer to every human problem. Understanding this present time as a season of harvest should motivate us to act now, not delaying the work of evangelism. Each day presents new opportunities to reach out and share the gospel, and every Christian should make the most of every moment to bring people to salvation.

A Privilege to Honor God

Winning souls is not just a duty but a valuable privilege that brings glory to God. In (1 Corinthians 10:31), Paul advises, “So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.” When we lead others to Christ, we participate in God’s divine mission and bring honor to His name. This privilege allows us to partner with God in the transformative work of salvation, showcasing His grace and power. Additionally, Jesus tells us in (Matthew 5:16,) “Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” By winning souls, we let our light shine, bringing glory to God and demonstrating His love and character to the world.

Soul Winning Demonstrates Love

Soul winning is a profound expression of love, reflecting the heart of God. Jesus demonstrated the ultimate act of love by sacrificing Himself for humanity’s salvation (John 3:16). When we engage in soul-winning, we mirror this love by caring deeply for the eternal well-being of others. In (John 15:13), Jesus says, “Greater love hath no man than this: that a man lay down his life for his friends.” While we may not physically lay down our lives, dedicating time and effort to lead others to Christ is a great way to show love. By doing this, we demonstrate that we genuinely care about their spiritual destiny and desire for them to experience God’s transformative love.

Sharing the Gospel isn’t just about growing the church; it’s about extending God’s love and grace. As we lead others to Christ, we become partners in His redemptive work, obeying the Great Commission and unlocking a wellspring of blessings in our own lives.

Remember, (Proverbs 11:30) “The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life, and he who winneth souls is wise.” Embrace this wisdom and join us in the mission to spread God’s word, rescue the lost, and bear spiritual fruit.
